Fabulous Friday-Featured Blog: Our Rustic City 6

Hi Everybody!

Our Rustic City, Morgan Mendoza

Tena here for another inside look at another Fabulous Blog, Our Rustic City with Morgan Mendoza. Our Rustic City is A DIY & home decor blog.

Here is what I learned about Morgan!

OBR: Tell our viewers a little about yourself.

Morgan:  I am 22 years old and I live in Kansas City, MO with my husband and our fur baby Maggie! I have always had a passion for home decor. Even when I was a child I would constantly be trying to move my furniture in my room around and try to change it up! I work full time in physical therapy and so does my husband! I am working really hard on my blog at night and on weekends so that I can make this my new career.

OBR: Why & when did you start your blog?

Morgan:  I started my blog in 2016. My husband and I had finally saved up enough money to move out of our one bedroom and apartment and get our first house.

However, our budget was so tight I had to no way to decorate my new home. I started to research and try DIY projects.

I realized how much I loved it and I wanted to share what I was doing with others so that’s where I got the idea for our blog!

The following is just another fabulous post by Our Rustic City!

Enjoy making your bath bombs!

How to Make DIY Bath Bombs

Hi friends! As many of you know I have had a long time obsession with anything from Lush Cosmetics. One of their claims to fame is their bath bombs. These my friends are to die for! They have all sorts of fun options to try out so you will never get bored at bath time again. I love to go in and try their new recipes, but I have to limit myself because a trip to Lush can quickly cause a bank account to wither away. I am highly addicted to using bath bombs so I knew I couldn’t break my habit. I decided to take things into my own hands and try making my own.

I loved the fact that I could completely customize one to fit my exact needs. I am also a creative soul so I had so much fun playing around with all of the different color combinations. This was a great way to spend an afternoon and I can’t wait to share my method with you. Let’s get started!

Ingredients for a DIY Bath Bomb:

  • ½ cup powdered citric acid
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ¾ cup corn starch
  • ¼ cup Epsom salts
  • Food coloring
  • Essential oils
  • Water
  • Cookie cutter

How to Make a DIY Bath Bomb

Alright friends now try to picture yourself back in your high school Chemistry class. This is going to be just like that only way more fun!

You will want to start by combining all of your powdered ingredients. This includes your citric acid, baking soda, corn starch, and Epsom salts. Stir all of your ingredients together until they become one.

Now you will want to add water to lightly dampen your mixture. You want to add just enough water for the mixture to easily hold its form when pressed together, but not too much to where it starts to foam up and you have to start all over. To keep myself from going overboard like I have a tendency to do I used a spray bottle to spritz a few sprays at a time.

When your mixture is to the point where it is easily molded it is time to add your food coloring and essential oils. I used mostly pink and blue food coloring with a hint of green. I also chose Lavender for my essential oil to attempt to bring a sense of calm into my crazy life! You can and should experiment by mixing multiple colors or oils together to find your perfect fit!

Now press your mixture into your cookie cutters. Be sure to press firmly as you go to help prevent cracking and separating as they dry. Once you have them all packed I would let them sit overnight so that they can harden into place. Then, once they have fully dried, remove them from their molds. If they are still a little damp you can still remove them I would just let them set for a little longer before using them.
